BLUFF EUROPE’S POKER ACADEMY DAZZLES BIRMINGHAM & READIES FOR DUBLIN
Donnacha O’Dea and Alex Rousso head to Dublin’s Sports Emporium
13 May, 2009 (London, UK) - Birmingham’s Broadway Casino played host to yet another successful stage of the Bluff Europe Poker Academy last Saturday (9 May). Continuing on its enlightening tour of Britain, the Academy once again offered poker enthusiasts the chance to “learn from the pros” – next stop is Dublin, Ireland.
With both the Manchester and Birmingham legs proving a success, the academy finds itself at the halfway stage of its tour with Dublin and London still to come. So far, attendees of the Academy have been granted a helping hand from a number of poker professionals including Paul ‘Actionjack’ Jackson, Ian ‘Razor’ Fraser and Alex ‘Pickleman’ Rousso - all of whom have been more than happy to share their poker acumen.
Looking ahead, the Poker Academy will offer the opportunity to meet, learn from and play against Irish poker legend Donnacha O’Dea at Dublin’s Sports Emporium next Saturday, May 16. Poker celeb Phil ‘Unabomber’ Laak ends the tour in London the following weekend, Saturday, May 23.
Reports from Birmingham
In addition to an array of lectures and exercises, delegates were also given a 45-minute master-class from Paul Jackson discussing various online hands.
The double chance freezeout tournament proved a great chance for the delegates to learn in live action, with a pro on each table following the action and running through the hands afterwards giving advice. When it got to heads up, Dave Carpenter defeated Mosaad “Rambo” Aboukashaba to take home the top prize.
Alex Rousso was particularly impressed with the standard of some of the players, “Our seminars are designed both to fine tune the skills of existing intermediate players and give beginners a sound platform to improve their game. The feedback on both these counts was very positive.”
About the Poker Academy Team
Alex Rousso has a PhD in evolutionary psychology and has taught university undergraduates. He ran the family pickle importing business until he started making more money per hour playing poker. He now writes a column for Bluff Europe (as “Pickleman”) and can be found most days online at the PLO cash tables.
Paul “Action” Jackson is a revered UK tournament player from the Midlands. Although he has enjoyed much success in the UK circuit, he is perhaps best known worldwide for his second place finish at the Monte Carlo Millions in 2005. His heads up battle against Phil Ivey, with its bluffing and re-bluffing, has become a YouTube classic.
Dave ‘Devilfish’ Ulliott is one of the UK’s most recognisable and formidable characters in poker. Along with his trademark sunglasses and personalised gold knuckle dusters, Devilfish has become a major celebrity with his own online card room. He also has collected over $4,000,000 in career winnings.
There are still places available on all three stops left of the tour but not for long so interested parties should hurry if they want to secure a place.
Tickets cost £125 + £25, which includes the tournament buy-in. For more information or to sign-up, visit www.bluffeurope.com/pokeracademy.
Press seats are still available. Please contact Melissa Ross to book seats in Dublin or London.
