POKER TO THE PEOPLE
London, November 10, 2010 – ‘PKR.com Presents London Calling’, the UK’s biggest poker festival, has finished and the response has been fantastic. Poker enthusiasts travelled across the globe to take part in the month long -57 tournament event which provided high quality, dealer-dealt tournaments at affordable buy-ins to the poker community at large.
The festival bought over 2,350 players through the door for a range of tournaments including PLO, Hold’em and HORSE with buy-ins ranging from £20-£100. It was PKR Player Simon ‘tigerwing’ Wing who stole the show with a £15,171 win in the £300 Main Event on the final Sunday.
PKR.com Marketing Director, Simon Prodger, said, “Congratulations to all those who took part! London Calling has shown that not all poker tours need the pricey buy-ins which currently dominate the market. Instead London Calling delivered quality tournaments to the masses with the average buy-in of around £25.”
PKR players showed that they could bring their skills from the virtual to the live felt, winning a staggering 25% of the events, and bringing home the cash and the little red bus trophies. Stewart ‘Rattus’ Forsyth took down the £70 6-Handed event for a £1,140 payday; Mike ‘The Squeeze’ Panayiotou won £699 in the £40 Omaha Hi-Lo; PKR TV presenter Ashley Hames took home £697 in the £40 re-buy, and Nick ‘Enchant’ Aitken walked away with £1,230 from the £70 Freezeout event.
PKR staff also tried to follow in the footsteps of former Customer Services Rep and WSOP bracelet winner Scott Shelley with a win at the live tables. Poker Operative Executive Paul Antonioni finished first in the £40 Double Chance Omaha event pocketing £540 and Security Team member Andy Campbell took home £1,250 from the £30 Deepstack.
As well as PKR winners, the locals picked up plenty of cash from the 28-day festival. Niels Volvath took home £1,100 in the £70 HORSE event and Stephen Philips came first in the £70 Freezeout bagging himself £1,300, the largest win outside the Main Event.
Chris North, Managing Director of the Fox Poker Club in association with PKR.com commented, “London Calling has been a great hit; we have been overwhelmed with the feedback and demand for a London Calling little red bus. Congratulations to all of the winners.”
